What is Low G.I.?

Not all carbohydrate foods are created equal, in fact they behave quite differently in our bodies. The glycemic index or GI describes this difference by ranking carbohydrates according to their effect on our blood glucose levels. Choosing low GI carbs - the ones that produce only small fluctuations in our blood glucose and insulin levels - is the secret to long-term health reducing your risk of heart disease and diabetes and is the key to sustainable weight loss. What is Detox & Does It Work?

I have written previously on detoxification and cleansing as a topic but I am being asked fairly regularly as to why it is important in this day and age and why must we do it so regularly?.

Basically it comes down to this, everyday we are eating foods laden with pesticides and artificial hormones, antibiotics. We are exposed to harmful gases and fumes constantly as they are spewed into the atmosphere from large industry, we are exposed to radiation from microwave ovens, TV screens, mobile phones and computer screens. We are exposed to toxic chemical in our personal care products and  various other household cleaning products. We eat far too much over processed and fatty, sugary foods that produce harmful toxins and fat gain in the body. Read More Here...

What is Low Salt / Sodium?

Nutrient claims such as 'low salt' are often used by food manufacturers to point out the nutrition benefits of their product. Manufacturers who use this claim, have to make sure the product meets strict criteria before they are allowed to print 'low salt' on the food label.

A 'low salt/sodium' or 'low in salt/sodium' nutrient claim can only be placed on the label if the food contains no more than 120mg sodium per 100g. It is recommended people with high blood pressure follow a low salt diet. Read More Here...

What does No Added Sugar Mean?

No added sugar - products must not contain any added sugar (includes honey, malt, malt extract or maltose) but, of course, still contain the natural sugars of the fruit juice or fruit product. Beware of this as it is often misleading and is no indicator of total sugar content. ALWAYS check the nutritional information panel on your foods and make sure it is not too high in sugars. Fruit sugar will still play up a little with those sensitive to simple sugars.

Are Sugar Substitutes Safe?

Certain sugar substitutes are safe as they are natural and these are :
Xylitol
Stevia
Agave' Syrup
Raw Unprocessed Honey
Other sugar substitutes are far from safe these are mainly Aspartame based and should be avoided at all costs.

Is Meat Good For You?

Vegetarians are healthier than people who eat meat. Its a fact. Scientific studies show that vegetarians suffer much less from illnesses like cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and other common health problems. A major Chinese study of 6,500 people (The China Study) showed that the less animal products eaten, the healthier people were. A major study reported in the British Medical Journal found that, of 5,000 meat eaters and 6,000 non-meat eaters, vegetarians have 40% less risk of cancer and 30% less risk of heart disease than the meat eaters and were 20% less likely to die of any cause (Oxford Vegetarian Study). A US study of 50,000 vegetarians showed a very low rate of cancer (Seventh Day Adventist Study). It has been estimated that by following a low-fat vegetarian diet, the risk of food poisoning is decreased by 80%. More evidence of the benefits of a vegetarian diet is being found each year.

Is a Vegetarian Diet Ok? Will I Get Enough Nutrients?

Understandably, people are a bit apprehensive about changing their diet. Everyone seems to know ‘someone’ who looks as pale as a bleached potato since giving up meat! The truth is that a well-balanced vegetarian diet provides all the protein and nutrients needed for a vigorous and healthy life (American Dietary Association study). What is seldom pointed out are the millions of conventional eaters who suffer from constipation, obesity, diabetes, diverticulitis, gout and a host of other problems and diseases brought on by a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables in their diet, combined with the adverse effects of meat.

A study carried out by the University of Surrey in Britain found that vegetarians were better nourished than meat eaters, and much closer to the ideal diet recommended by the governments own health advisers.

What About Preservatives & Additives?

There's a great deal of deception in the labeling of food products found at your local grocery store and even at many health food stores. A disturbing trend I've noticed is that many vegetarian products and grocery items billed as "healthy" or "natural" are using chemical additive taste enhancers found... Read More Here...

What is G.M.O.?

There is a cabal of power-hungry corporations that are systematically destroying humanity's future. These companies have taken over the food supply, injected pesticides, viruses and invading genes into staple crops, engineered "terminator" genes that make crop seeds unviable, destroyed the livelihood...
